You’ve nailed it. Bad but engaging. Every episode: Michaela gets immediate access to somewhere simply by hollering “NYPD!” Ben makes that dumb open-mouthed bewildered awe face. Cal over-acts whatever sensation the callings are giving him. Michaela talks about “What the callings want.”

The goofiest thing is The Callings themselves. It’s all very Hand of God, but only if God was a malicious 9-year-old bent on torturing everyone with life-or-death guessing games. If a calling can urge you to go to a general location and repeat “set them free!” then why can’t it just urge you to go to a specific location and tell you how and why to set a specific person free?

Don’t get me started on Ben’s murder board. Have pictures, news clippings and webs of yarn on a cork board ever solved anything?
