Words do matter. I hope to gently steer you away from calling circumcision a “snip.” At birth, the foreskin is naturally and protectively adhered to the glans and typically remains that way until the child is several years old. In medical circumcision, it is forcibly ripped away from the glans. This action is arguably as painful and damaging as the subsequent amputation of the foreskin. It is not uncommon for circumcised people to have dents in the glans where small chunks were torn away during this process.
“Snip” is a euphemism often deployed by proponents of circumcision who wish to make it sound much gentler than it actually is.
