The topics of books in an active LFL will rarely reflect the character of its host.
I have an LFL in front of my home. I think of myself as its steward, keeping it tidy, uncluttered by “Book bombings” (where people stuff it beyond usability with a pile of cast-off books) and free of outdated materials, cult tracts, etc. When it’s overloaded I set books aside for later, and I try to keep a balance of fiction, nonfiction and a few children’s books in the inventory.
The vast majority of my LFL’s books are donated by others, and I think that’s generally how it goes for other neighborhood LFLs.
