The Stones’ “Stray Cat Blues” is about a 15-year-old runaway and gets it creepier line by line, going on about how she’s scratching and spitting and “I’ll bet your mama didn’t know you could scream/fight like that” so clearly indicates rape. It also suggests she have her “wilder than you” friend “join in too.” The refrain is “It’s no hanging matter, it’s no capital crime” so, uh, great rationalization, guys. Richards/Jagger wrote it in the 1960s and Soundgarden covered it in the 1990s with no lyrical updates. The music has a terrific groove but I think the only way to save this rapey hot mess is to perform it as an instrumental.
ETA it’s more creepy than corny.
