The phrase that irks me is “Are we good?” Or its uglier cousin, “Are we okay?” This is always a passive-aggressive attempt at obtaining absolution without actually acknowledging that something went wrong, let alone apologizing. It will only ever be whipped out when a person knows they’ve been uncouth and want to know if they got away with it. Instead of making amends, they put the wronged party in the awkward position of excusing them—while conceding no wrongdoing of their own. Gross.
I also am tired of seeing “iconic” used incorrectly to mean something like “vaguely admirable” and “obsessed with” as a superlative stand in for “very mild interest.”
