The one that never fails to irk me is “jive” when the writer means “jibe” (or its alternate spelling, “gybe.”) Jibe originated as a sailing term for going along with the wind (as opposed to tacking). So if two pieces of information make sense together, they jibe. Or if they’re at odds, one may say “That doesn’t jibe.” Yet everyone runs around saying “That jives with” or “that does jive.”
“Jive” originated with BVE and means to talk crap. It doesn’t mean anything close to jibe.
