That’s not how I think of the kids at my high school who died while drunk. Having survived my own youthful larks, I think my classmates who died while drinking would have gone onto become productive members of society. And knowing how their friends and families grieved I find it heartbreaking. I support the idea of a kinder society that tries to reduce heartbreak. But if it soothes your particular soul to believe they would have “killed themselves no matter what” you’re certainly free to think that.
