Thank you for this comforting read. With the exception of military/frequent moving, you’ve described my “social life” to a T.

When I see those large, loud friend groups at a restaurant or bar, I do wonder if there is something wrong with me. But then I remember that I dislike big social events, have no patience for small talk, and cringe at superficiality. Trying to fit into a big group makes me anxious. Deep, one-on-one conversations mean so much more to me.

There’s this dichotomy between feeling bad about being excluded and not enjoying myself when I’m included. Let’s always keep in mind that our value isn’t derived from being part of a big “girl posse.”
