Sometimes it can be quite instructive for men to experience what it is like to be told “how women think you should be.” How did it feel reading all the ways you might be unacceptable to women? Or thinking about your son being subjected to such attitudes? Unfortunately, it’s the norm for women to be bombarded with this kind of material. If men understood how it felt, they might be less inclined to lecture and shame women about male tastes in body shapes, hairstyles, grooming, clothing, etc.
Like you, I want better for my kids. While I agree that “more of the same” isn’t a worthy goal, occasionally flipping the script (as this article does) can function as a much needed object lesson.
