Since I was fully vaccinated and suffered a moderate case of Covid, I’m sure I’d have been a lot sicker (and maybe dead like 800,000 other US citizens) if I’d not been vaccinated at all. Early on, the vaccines were great at reducing infection, contagiousness and severity. But with so many people refusing to get vaccinated, the virus has had millions of opportunities to mutate and these mutations are now defying the vaccine. This is why we’ve seen a steady increase in breakthrough cases. It was never that the vaccine didn’t work; it’s that too many people refused to get vaccinated.
