Loved that medieval baby shower story!

It’s screwy that we believe boys and girls need completely different baby items. God forbid a baby boy sit in a flowered high chair, or a girl plays with a train set. A new baby deserves some gifts, sure, but a shower is both to celebrate and equip, not to enforce outdated gender ideas.

A second shower is warranted when there is a sizable age gap between babies, long enough that the parents have gotten rid of all their baby stuff. That said, showers are supposed to be thrown by friends or families, not recipients. A recipient can’t control what their friends do. But throwing yourself a baby shower is greedy.
