I’m sure you could get a good Medium story out of it because it’s problematic as hell. It’s not just that “Edward is way older” than Bella.* He does creepy “I wuv you so much” things like sneaking through her bedroom window at night to watch her sleep, demanding she dump a friend to show him loyalty, disabling her truck to prevent her from visiting her friend (to “protect” her, of course), and gaslighting her about a near-fatal accident in the school parking lot. He is constantly “protective” in ways that infantilize her and teeter on violence.
*There’s an excellent case to be made that Bella is not actually the protagonist; Twilight is told from the POV of its McGuffin. She is that inert.
You make great points here about the inherent ageism and lookism both stories are built around.
