I’m so tired of headlines promising something the author then refuses to deliver—or at best, buries at the bottom of a 12-minute read in attempt to maximize earnings. I’ve watched as the number of “introductory paragraphs” in Medium articles bloated from 1 to 5 to 7, lately clocking in between 11 and 13. When an author is boring me with endless throat-clearing I scroll up and count their preamble paragraphs—right before I mute them. Frankly, they’re using and abusing readers and we’re dumb if we continue to let them. AI articles are easy to spot because they’re the literary equivalent of stale Wonderbread.
The sad thing is, many great writers here are getting drowned out by pointless clickbait garbage and the dustbowl of AI.
