I so appreciate that this isn’t yet another mindless list of outdated toys, so I’ll add a few more: Remember FM radio that wasn’t just endless ads and snarky DJs snorting at their own lame jokes and playing the same 14 tired “classic rock” hits? Five & Dimes with lunch counters? Single-purpose stores all in a row (the pharmacy, the bakery, the dairy, the liquor store, the butcher, the produce shop?) How loud cars used to be and their smelly exhaust? Only farmers drove Pickups and those were affordable vehicles? Manual transmissions were so common they were called “standard?” Remember the trash all along the main roads before the “litterbug” campaigns and bottle deposits laws? “Tanning” oils and lotions, with SPF 4 as the highest UV protection? Dining out was a rare treat, not how people got breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the daily? Encyclopedias? Paper maps?
