I see this phrase a lot but I’m not sure what constitutes “clap and run.” If I clap without highlighting or responding, is that considered a clap and run? I read on Medium quite a lot. If I don’t like or finish a story I don’t clap for it. If I enjoy and finish it I’ll clap generously. I always read the comments and will add a comment if I have something to say that some other commenter hasn’t said already. I might highlight resonant text that’s not already highlighted but I’ve seen so many gripes about highlighting that I’m a little gun-shy about it.
I’ve been blocking followers that are promotional accounts, inactive/empty accounts, or publishing AI “writing.” I’m leaning toward blocking followers who follow a huge number of accounts because odds are they’re only following me in hopes I’ll follow back as a Friend of Medium. Ugh.
