I recently read Cold Comfort Farm and found its frequent rule-flouting quite charming. The sultry Seth “lounging” out of the room, etc. Likewise, Daniel Handler’s Bottle Grove plays with language in ways that would send Grammarly into an utter meltdown. We need more of this kind of playfulness and a lot less of the homogenized, ultra-processed prose wrought by standard word-processing programs that can’t distinguish fiction from a white paper.
The ignoramus autocorrect on my phone refuses to recognize “flout.”
