I have a childhood friend serving a 28-32 year sentence and whenever I read a great a book I order a new copy for her through Amazon (it’s all the prison will accept). Unfortunately, some of the COs take the bestsellers home for themselves. At times we’ve had to jump through a lot of hoops to prove to the powers that be that she didn’t get books I’ve sent her. The corrections system is rife with such petty abuses of power.
