I feel like this starts before a girl is even born. How many times have you heard people say things about like “You’re having a girl? You poor thing. Boys are so much easier!” “Just wait until she hits 13” “Look out! She’ll be a nightmare as a teenager” “I don’t envy you once she reaches puberty,” etc.

Just as bad is using “teenage girl” as an insult to mean dramatic or untrustworthy.

The assumption that teenage girls are “a nightmare” is extremely toxic. If you hear anyone making these types of noxious statements about girls, call them out!
