I earned a degree in journalism but went into copywriting instead. I ended up as a marketing director for a smaller manufacturer and did all of their copywriting for decades. Ads, articles, news releases, product descriptions, product instructions, blog posts, SEO’d website content, video scripts, even obits as our aging founders died. One of the most challenging (and fun) disciplines was writing to a specified length e.g. a 15-word product description, 50-word company background, or 100-word fixed-format ad. The bar in copywriting is high because your writing must be clear, concise, persuasive, to deadline, and error-free. I loved that part of my job and it improved my writing and editing abilities a great deal.
I write novels for fun.
