Excellent point. “Everyone is a little bit narcissistic ergo narcissists are just like the rest of us only more so” is a form of gaslighting. Anyone who claims “everyone is a narcissist” is a probably narcissist who desperately wishes that was true.

Part of the problem is how fashionable it’s become to call anyone who you don’t like “a narcissist.” There is a huge difference between people who occasionally show a few narcissist traits and narcissistic personality disorder, which is a type of sociopathy.
