Excellent article! Over the course of my lifetime, “health science” reporting has both demonized and lauded the following foods:
Eggs
Butter
Nuts
Avocado
Whole milk
Cheese
Coffee
Wine
Chocolate
Peanut Butter
They’ve gone from the dreaded “fattening” and “artery-clogging “ or “cancer-causing” to “satiating” and “packed with *insert latest darling nutrient*” or “cancer-preventing.”
It’s all about attention-grabbing headlines and food marketing. We gravitate toward stories that tells us our favorite foods are deadly, and stories that vindicate them. They provide an illusion of control over our health and conveniently victim-blame the poor and disenfranchised.
