Diamond Dogs is high on my list of favorite concept albums, and your recommendation of it is spot on. To me, one of the most stunning aspects of the album experience is how melancholy, almost devastating, “Rebel Rebel” sounds when it’s preceded by the reprise of “Sweet Thing.” It really loses that depth in isolation and sounds more upbeat and anthemic. Without its precursor it’s like a margarita without the salt.

I absolutely do not mean this as a “gotcha” but “Lady Grinning Soul” is from the Aladdin Sane album.
