“Be best” Melania was not at Biden’s inauguration. Neither was Trump. Melania seemed done with the role of First Lady from the day Trump was sworn in the first time. She took a hard pass on most of the First Lady traditions while she was actually the First Lady. Her whole vibe is cold indifference. Remember her “I Don’t Care, Why Do You?” jacket?

Maybe Michelle’s absences hit so much harder because we actually like (love!) her. It’s not like her to skip things so I hope she’s just living her best life.
