According to the Dio doc on Showtime, when Dio replaced Ozzy in Black Sabbath, he wanted to use a different hand gesture than the tired peace sign Ozzy was known for, a hippie gesture terribly out of style by the Eighties! He made a great choice.

In high school I had a dear friend who always used that gesture and claimed it meant “I love you.” I know it doesn’t, but still find it charming rather than evil.
